HOW DO I CHOOSE THE RIGHT PILLOW?nav_pillows

It’s a question we hear often. With so many pillows on the market, the options seem to be endless. It all starts with reflecting on your own sleep habits to find what works best for you. Take our Sleep Quiz to get specific product recommendations, or keep reading to get our insider tips.

WHAT’S THE BEST PILLOW FOR MY SLEEPING POSITION?

Think about how you woke up today. Were you on your front, side, or back? If you sleep on your stomach, you’ll want to choose a soft, flat pillow to allow for proper alignment. Feather or soft foam, such as the Triple Chamber pillow, makes an excellent choice. On the other side of the spectrum, side sleepers require more neck support, and this can be achieved through memory foam or latex, which tend to be more dense while still contouring to support your neck and spine. The TEMPUR Contour Side to Side pillow model is a good starting place. Finally, when it comes to back sleepers, medium thickness is ideal – not too flat or too high. There are some great pillows on the market that come in a curved shape that fits the needs of back sleepers, such as the Blu Sleep Bio Aloe pillow. Again, we recommend testing out latex or memory foam, but make sure the shape is suitable.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I REPLACE MY PILLOW?

Investing in the right pillow not only pays off in terms of sleep quality, but also in terms of durability. Experts recommend replacing polyester pillows every six months, whereas latex and memory foam pillows are known to last upwards of 2 to 3 years. There’s no true test to determine if your pillow needs to be replaced, but if you fold it in half for 30 seconds and it doesn’t spring back to shape as soon as it’s released, then it’s a sure sign to get a new one. Furthermore, we recommend cleaning your pillow cover every 3 weeks and the pillow itself every 3 months to reduce the buildup of unwanted debris, dust mites, and oil. After all, you lay your head on your pillow for ⅓ of your life, so you need to know it’s clean, comfortable, and supportive.
