A Short Queen Mattress refers to the specific size 60" x 74" mattress which is most commonly used in camper vans, RVs, Camper trailers, motor homes and mobile homes. Short queen became the standard mattress size to use in most RV's and has become synonymous with an RV mattress.
RV Queen, also known as Short Queen or Queen Short, is the most frequently used mattress size for RVs, typically measuring 60" x 75" or 60" x 74". This size accounts for 60%-70% of the orders we receive. RV King is another size option for RV mattresses, measuring 72" x 80"
Can I fit a standard queen you'd find in a mattress store in my RV?
The appropriate mattress size for an RV varies depending on the type of RV. In general, standard residential queen mattresses that measure about 60" x 80" are not typically used in RVs. Instead, most RVs require a shorter version called a short queen, which is about 5 inches shorter in length. The reason for this is often due to the size of the bedroom, adjoining bathroom, or furniture placement, as well as weight restrictions.
However, there are some RVs, such as pop-up and truck campers, that can accommodate standard residential queen mattresses. It's important to measure the space to ensure there are no height limitations. In some cases, mattresses thicker than 5-6 inches may not fit in pop-up campers and mattresses that are too thick in truck campers can cause head clearance issues.
